Well, it’s almost the end of the day – and the month – so I’ll make this one short and sweet. HAPPY CANADA DAY to all my fellow Canadians, and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY to all of our American friends! May everyone have an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend!

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is here once again! Five days of music and merriment are set to take place at Birds Hill Park from July 7 t0 11. Daily passes are still available, and so are five-day passes with camping in the quiet campground. You can find all your festival information and schedules online at www.winnipegfolkfestival.ca.

King John Boxing presents ‘Hometown Heroes Live Professional Boxing’ on Thursday July 8 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. The main event features Winnipeg’s first ever WBC World Title fight, with Olivia ‘The Predator’ Gerula (Winnipeg) defending her WBC Women’s Super Featherweight Title. Other action includes Larry ‘Razor’ Sharpe (Pine Falls, Manitoba) who will make his way into the ring for one final fight before retirement. More hometown heroes on the card as well. Tickets $30 at Ticketmaster or 982-4542.

The MEC BikeFest is gearing up to take place at The Forks on Saturday July 18. Take part in cycling clinics and workshops, enjoy group rides and demonstrations, try out the free ‘yoga for the cyclist’ session, and a whole lot more. Look for event information at www.mec.ca (Winnipeg location).

The Winnipeg Rowing Club is proud to be hosting the 107th Annual NorthWest International Rowing Association (NWIRA) Regatta in Winnipeg this summer, on August 13 and 14. Come out and watch rowing races on the Red River, with athletes from Canada and the US competing. More info coming soon! www.winnipegrowingclub.ca

The 2010 Manito Ahbee Festival takes place in Winnipeg – the heart of turtle island – from November 3 to 7. One of the highlights of the festival is the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, which happen November 4 and 5. Find out more at www.manitoahbee.com and www.aboriginalpeoplechoice.com.

PROCRASTINATION TIP-OF-THE-MONTH!

Did you know that procrastinators actually have a 12-step program to help them get over their tendency to procrastinate? Indeed they do. While theoretically it’s a good idea, in actual practice, Step 4 calls for making a list of reasons why one procrastinates. So at this point, we’re not sure how successful the program is, because so far, no one has yet to make it past Step 4…
