Wow, can you believe it’s July already?? Time sure flies when you love what you do! At RAS Creative we’ve been spending our summer providing communications services to fun and exciting clients in music and motion pictures, sports and entertainment, special events, travel and tourism, and within the Aboriginal community. We’re proud to share news about our clients each month – so here’s the latest for you…

MUSIC

Eagle & Hawk just finished a three-day performance run at Capital EX, Edmonton’s biggest summer celebration. Next, the band is off to the Indian Summer Festival in Milwaukee, where they’ve been nominated for two awards. (www.eagleandhawk.com)

FILM & TELEVISION

Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story has wrapped shooting in Winnipeg. It was an exciting project to work on, and the highlight was meeting Mr. Don Cherry himself. Check out the picture of my new buddy! (www.ras-creative.com)

FESTIVALS & EVENTS

The Winnipeg Folk Festival enjoyed a record year for audience. The five-day paid attendance was more than 55,000, with total attendance including sponsors, volunteers, artists, guests, and other comps surpassing 73,000. (www.winnipegfolkfestival.ca)

Online voting is now taking place for nominations for the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. Two nights of awards will be handed out in Winnipeg November 5 and 6, with nominees and winners chosen by voting. (www.aboriginalpeopleschoice.com)

CORPORATE

Manitoba Hydro produced a video this spring to describe their Commercial Custom Measures program. RAS Creative helped tie it all together by providing the written script. The video is now available online. (www.hydro.mb.ca)

ACTIVE LIVING

The Winnipeg Rowing Club sent 36 athletes to compete against seven other rowing clubs at the Tops & Bottoms Regatta in Kenora – winning 17 of 26 races. Way to go! Or should I say, way to row… (www.winnipegrowingclub.ca)

Moksha Yoga Winnipeg is teaming up with lululemon to host an outdoor yoga class on Saturday August 8 in Assiniboine Park. For a minimum $5 donation you can participate, with all proceeds going to Free The Children. (www.mokshayogawinnipeg.com)

TRAVEL & TOURISM

Two of Manitoba’s most unique destinations – Pinewood Lodge and Elkhorn Resort – were featured in The Cottager. Discover more about Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario’s cottage country in this great magazine. (www.thecottager.ca)

RAS CREATIVE NEWS

As an added benefit to clients and to better serve media, we’ve created an online “Media Room” where you’ll find media releases, pictures, downloads, and select media coverage, available and easily accessible in one location. Stop by often! (www.ras-creative.com)

PROCRASTINATION TIP-OF-THE-MONTH

When it comes to self-inflicted project deadlines, try setting them one to two weeks in advance. That way, when one approaches, you’ll secretly know when things are REALLY due. Which means you can easily and guiltlessly put off tasks for one, or two, even five more days, depending on how much extra time you need to meet the REAL deadlines that are REALLY REALLY due…

Cheers!
