With more than 75 nominations and 35 wins at award ceremonies across North America, Eagle & Hawk has been a part of Canada’s musical fabric for over 20 years. Today, the Winnipeg-based, indie alt-rock band announces the release of their first album in nine years, Liberty. The seven-track record takes a pointed look at many global issues front and centre today. The title track Liberty takes a look at migration and immigration in America, specifically the historic warmth and welcoming of “the tired, the poor, the huddled masses” alongside the recent erosion and debate of rights and freedoms. Tracks on the album also spotlight the rise and presence of women in society, the great divide, and other universal questions of the human experience.

"The new album speaks to the geopolitical, social and environmental climate we find ourselves in in 2019. We're hopeful that people see the global state we've arrived at where many issues are concerning and affecting us all from societal divide to climate uncertainty to equality in society. We hope this album inspires people to be more generous, caring and tolerant to one another,” says Eagle & Hawk band leader and guitarist,  Vince Fontaine.

The album's debut single, She's Come of Age, illuminates this rising presence of women in society. The song applauds, acknowledges, and pays tribute to women's accomplishments and commitment to breaking barriers.

As another tribute to the rise of the female voice, Eagle & Hawk’s hit Sundancer has been reprised for the new album to include female vocalists. The album's orchestral outro is carried by a choir of Indigenous women whose bright, angelic voices bring these important messages from record to reality.

Celebrated Canadian broadcaster, Howard Mandshein, shared his sentiments saying, “Eagle & Hawk are icons in Canada’s music history. Their dedication to art for social justice has inspired thousands of fans around the world. I’ve been watching this band grow for more than 20 years, and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down. This next record is going to make huge waves.” Musical inspirations for the record include Coldplay, Carlos Santana, Mumford & Sons, and many new artists today.

“The catalyst to fuel this album was our milestone of 20 years as touring band. We acknowledged that it is pretty remarkable for a group of musicians to keep a project going for more than two decades. Just after we hit that milestone, the phone started ringing, we got a CBC doc, and from there, we started writing.” said Eagle & Hawk lead singer, Jay Bodner.

In 2019, CBC gave Eagle & Hawk the green light to produce a documentary to share the stories of their two decades in music and solidify the band's musical legacy. Seeing Red is slated for release in 2020.
