Showcase Opportunity: Midwest Music Exchange

We’re excited to re-team with our friends at MPR's The Current and Radio Milwaukee for the return of the Midwest Music Exchange! Running  April 27 - 30, the export-focused project will include showcases in Winnipeg, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee and opportunities to build new connections in key music markets. 

Midwest Music Exchange is an opportunity for export-ready artists from Manitoba to showcase and connect with Midwest media, music industry professionals, and music fans to develop business relationships, audiences, and touring routes.

This project will have a focus on genre diversity, gender diversity, and IBPOC and LGBTQ2S+ voices.

Participants are responsible for booking and paying for their own travel and accommodations. Participants will be eligible for Market Access Fund, but the funding does not cover full costs. 

To be selected for this opportunity, you should:

  • Be a member of Manitoba Music and current resident of Manitoba
  • Be an export-ready artist (able to capitalize on international activities and opportunities)
  • Have recent professional career activity (e.g. recent or upcoming release: demo/EP/LP/single, tour, festival sets, industry showcases, media coverage)
  • Have one team member or equivalent capacity (e.g. manager, agent, publicist, publisher, label)
  • Be available to perform a showcase of original music (or originally arranged)
  • Be available for an introductory meeting 2 - 8 weeks prior to the event via Zoom
  • Have a valid passport and ability to travel to the US
  • Be 21 years or older (including all performing members if applicable)

Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee of industry professionals based on:

  • Quality of music, songwriting, composition
  • Track record
  • Strength of team
  • Export readiness
  • Rationale

Notification date: Friday, March 29, 2024
Project dates: April 25 to April 30, 2024

April 25-26: Travel to Milwaukee
April 27: Professional development & showcase in Milwaukee
April 28: Travel to Minneapolis, mixer & showcase in Minneapolis
April 29: Travel to Winnipeg
April 30: Professional development & showcase in Winnipeg
