Northern Roots Music Festival kicks off second year in Opaskwayak

Winnipeg’s Most, Chrome 204, Lost Priority, Vibez, Skelpa Squad, Joey Stylez, and Derek Miller are among the 33 acts set to perform this week at the second annual Northern Roots Music Festival in northern Manitoba. The concerts are scheduled for July 13, 14, and 15 at the Métis Hall in The Pas and the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre (GLMC) in Opaskwayak.

The festival kicks off with a pancake breakfast at the Wescana Inn on the 13th, followed by three heavy metal workshops for youth at the Club Room in the Métis Hall. A free metal concert is schedule for the afternoon with performances by local rockers and three bands from Winnipeg. The evening’s entertainment includes Ninjaspy (BC), Tyrants Demise (MB), Annex Theory (MB), Kyoktys (AB), and Autaric (SK).

The second day of festivities includes four free workshops about hip hop and urban music in the morning and a second free concert in the afternoon with Joey Stylez and six other acts. Winnipeg’s Most and hip hop legend Maestro headline a $50 ticket performance later that evening at the GLMC.

The final day includes rock workshops in the morning, a free rock concert in the afternoon, and performances by Derek Miller, Chrome 204, and These Kids Wear Crowns at the GLMC later that evening.
