New “Madwewetoon” Spotify Playlist Amplifies Indigenous Voices
Indigenous Music is launching “Madwewetoon”, a new Spotify playlist to amplify Indigenous voices from across Turtle Island. Each month will feature a new playlist by guest curators kicking off during National Indigenous History Month with Brandi Vezina.
The playlist title “Madwewetoon” meaning “make some noise” in Anishinaabemowin, has been shared by Kimberly Mckay from Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, Manitoba.
Vezina is a Winnipeg-based singer/songwriter whose authentic country roots are intertwined with rock and the blues. She is a natural born performer who comes from a musical Metis family. Her biggest inspirations include Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, and Miranda Lambert.
If you’re interested in being a guest curator for “Madwewetoon” involved, please email: imdp@manitobamusic.com
