Call for Submissions: Market Builder Residency for Indigenous Artists and Industry Professionals | Deadline: Jan 22

Indigenous Music will produce an online edition of the Market Builder Residency for Indigenous Artists and Industry Professionals in 2021. The project will provide up to 10 export-ready artists and mid-career industry professionals (managers, agents, publicists, publishers, or label representatives) from across Canada with a week of virtual networking, panel discussions, workshops, and mentorship.

Running March 22-26, 2021, Market Builder will include meetings with creative mentors or industry professionals, online networking events, and roundtable discussions with label representatives, music publishers, presenters, managers, agents, and media. Participants must commit to attending daily online panels and presentation sessions as well as one-on-one meetings with mentors.

Important Dates

January 22, 2021: Submission deadline
February 8, 2021: Invitations sent to successful applicants
February 22, 2021: Registration confirmation

Participants will receive a $150 per day honorarium. All sessions must be attended. It is free to apply for this opportunity.

Artists considered for this opportunity must:

  • Be First Nation, Metis, or Inuit residing in Canada
  • Be a solo artist or the band member responsible for the majority of business operations
  • Have a history of paid performances or songwriting credit on professional releases
  • Have attended at least one music industry conference outside of their home city or community in the past three years
  • Have a professional website and profiles for your music on prominent social media platforms
  • Have music available on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music
  • Be registered with SOCAN
  • Be 18 years of age or older

Industry professionals considered for this opportunity must:

  • Be First Nation, Metis, or Inuit residing in Canada
  • Have a signed contract that identifies you as the manager, agent, publicist, publisher, or label for at least one music artist (self-managed artists and radio hosts do not qualify)
  • Be dedicated to building a career in the music industry as demonstrated by conference attendance, music industry association membership, and business-related accomplishments
  • Have a registered business
  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Performance history or songwriting credits

Industry professional submission will be evaluated based on:

  • Goals
  • Dedication to building a career in the music industry as demonstrated by conference attendance, music industry association membership, and experience 

Submissions will be rejected if late or incomplete.
