New Streaming Series, Home Fire LIVE, Kicks Off April 30 on Facebook

Indigenous Music West is working in collaboration with seven Indigenous-led organizations, festivals, and programs from across the country on a virtual community gathering. Running weekly on Facebook, Home Fire LIVE will discuss music, business, spirit, wellness, culture and how this currently shapes personal and professional experiences in Indigenous music communities.

Home Fire LIVE is hosted by a collective of lead organizations in partnership with the Indigenous Music West program at Manitoba Music, including the Adäka Cultural Festival, Alianait Arts Festival, Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance (IPAA), Indigenous Resilience in Music, International Indigenous Music Summit, and Talking Stick Festival.

Each week will feature different sessions organized and facilitated by each partner organization, sharing a variety of perspectives in music. Home Fire LIVE will include a variety of interactive and presentation style sessions where participants and speakers will share knowledge, networks, resources, and advice with each other.

Home Fire LIVE kicks off on Thursday April 30 at 2PM CST with an interactive conversation between artists and industry professionals who identify as Indigenous about how they work in music during a global pandemic. The April 30 session features Alan Greyeyes, owner and operator of the artist and project management firm Ogichidaa Arts and producer of the sākihiwē festival, JUNO-nominated singer/songwriter Celeigh Cardinal, NCI FM CEO David McLeod, and musician/booking agent/promoter/producer MJ Dandeneau

Everyone is welcome to join the discussion via Facebook over the next several weeks to talk, learn, and share about how we are all taking care of our home fire. Join the event page for ongoing updates.

Launched in 2019, Indigenous Music West is part of a new emphasis on Indigenous music export at Manitoba Music, building on an existing slate of development programs. Made possible by Western Economic Diversification Canada, the program's goal is to deliver compelling and relevant programs to music entrepreneurs who identify as Indigenous from across Western Canada to strengthen business capacity and generate opportunities for export. In the past year, Indigenous Music West has led export development activities in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and across Western Canada.
