Five Manitoba Acts Earn Canadian Folk Music Award Nods

Five acclaimed Manitoba-based artists have landed nominations for this year's Canadian Folk Music Awards, including nods Desiree Dorion, Fred Penner, Kelly Bado, Lisa Muswagon, and Madame Diva et Micah le jeune voyageur. The hardware will be handed out on November 18 and 19 at the 13th annual gala, this year in Ottawa. 

Country singer/songwriter Desiree Dorion and contemporary hand drum artist Lisa Muswagon have both earned nominations for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year. Muswagon picked up an Indigenous Music Award nod for Best New Artist for her album, Buffalo and Rabbits, earlier this year. 

Kelly Bado picked up a nomination for World Solo Artist of the Year for her album Entre deux, which also landed a Western Canadian Music Award nod this year. 

Madame Diva et Micah le jeune voyageur landed at nod for Children's album of the Year for Zing-E-Zing! Music legend Fred Penner also picked up a nomination in the same category for his latest release, Hear The Music.
