Concert of Hope for the Northern Fire Evacuees, Sep 4 at The Forks
Local artistss have stepped up to perform a free concert in support of people who have been evacuated from their communities due to large forest fires raging in northern Manitoba. Taking place on September 4 at Oodena Circle at The Forks from 1PM until 6PM, the Concert of Hope for Northern Fire Evacuees will feature MCs Tina Keeper, Rosanna Deerchild, Corey Whitford, and Jordan Knight.
The communities of Garden Lake, St Theresa Point, Island Lake, Wasagamack, and Poplar River have been evacuated to Brandon and Winnipeg area, with over 4,600 people being transported from the communities and more on the way.
Artists taking the stage for the concert include Eagle & Hawk, C-Weed, Ernest Monias, The Staggering Haggards, JC Campbell, Rhonda Head, Rescued by Dragonflyz, Ila Barker, Paul Rabliauskas, Hellnback, Lisa Muswagon, Ojibway Elvis, Blaine Constant, Ryan Richard, Asham Stompers, Sagkeeng’s Finest, and Les Dorie.
The event will also host a donation table to take clothing items, for all ages from babies to elders. Items needed: water, pampers, baby milk, pacific milk, and hygiene products. Donations can also be dropped off at the Island Lake Tribal Council office (check Facebook page for current needs and info, call 204-982-3339 to make arrangements).
Food will be served by The Feast and bannock donated by The Bannock Lady - Althea Guiboche. The Bear Clan patrol will be on site. Food
