Call for Submissions: Open Mic Night Host

Submission Deadline:  4PM CST Tuesday October 18, 2016

Manitoba Music has partnered with the Winnipeg Folk Festival to present another season of Open Mic Nights, taking place on the third Tuesday of each month at The Handsome Daughter. These events are free and open to the public. Each event is hosted by a different Manitoba Music member. We are now taking submissions for artists interested in hosting a night. Seven hosts will be selected for events running from November 2016 until May 2017. Artists will be offered an honorarium.

To be considered for a performance, you must:

  • Be available from 6-10PM on at least one of the following (please note all availabilities):
    • November 15
    • December 20
    • January 17
    • February 21
    • March 21
    • April 18
    • May 16
  • Be able to perform up to 10 songs of original music
  • Be a Manitoba Music member
  • Be 18 years of age or older, or have accompaniment of legal guardian

Preference will be given to artists who:

  • Are solo performers
  • Have cultivated a local audience and local media coverage
  • Have a track record of strong live performances
  • Have a strong social media presence
  • Have not previously hosted our Open Mic Nights
  • Perform in a genre suitable to primarily acoustic open mics

To submit, email submissions@manitobamusic.com with "Open Mic Night" in the subject. Include the following:

  • Link to your profile on manitobamusic.com updated with:
    • Current music (a minimum of three full original songs – may be used in Manitoba Music’s streaming playlists and event promotion)
    • Current artist bio
    • Current high resolution image (300 dpi) uploaded to “Files” section
    • Links to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Music
  • Quality of your promotional materials (image, bio, etc.)
  • Social media presence
  • Momentum, demonstrated in your bio and recent accomplishments in existing or other projects
