Five Manitoba Acts Earn Canadian Folk Music Award Nods

Five acclaimed Manitoba-based artists have landed nominations for this year's Canadian Folk Music Awards, including nods Nadia Gaudet & Jason Burnstick, William PrinceThe Small Glories, Sweet Alibi, and Daniel Koulack. The hardware will be handed out on December 3 at the 12th annual bilingual gala, this year in Toronto. 

Bilingual singer/songwriters Nadia Gaudet & Jason Burnstick picked up two nominations for their debut album, Dream Big, Little One * Fais de beaux rêves, petit ange. Up for Aboriginal Songwriter(s) of the Year and Children's Album of the Year, the duo is also up for a pair of Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMAs) this October.

Also a double nominee this year, singer/songwriter William Prince has earned Contemporary Singer of the Year and Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year nods for his debut, Earthly Days. Prince also earned two nominations at the 2016 WCMAs.

Roots powerhouse duo The Small Glories is another double nominee for this year's awards, landing nominations for English Songwriter(s) of the Year and New/Emerging Artist of the Year. The folk vets - Cara Luft and JD Edwards -- teamed up for their acclaimed debut album, Wondrous Traveller. 

Folk/soul trio Sweet Alibi has earned its third Vocal Group of the Year nomination, this time for its latest release, Walking In The Dark. The band is also up for a WCMA this fall. 

Banjo virtuoso Daniel Koulack has picked up a nod for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year for Frailing to Succeed.
