Manitoba Artists Earn Five Native American Music Award Nominations
Three Aboriginal recording acts from Manitoba have landed five nominations for this year's Native American Music Awards (NAMA). The 15th annual awards gala takes place November 14 at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Niagara Falls, New York and streamed live on fnx.org with a television broadcast to follow on FNX-TV and New York PBS Stations on November 27.
Classical singer Rhonda Head added another to her growing list of accolades with two NAMA nominations, including Best Female Artist and Best Gospel/Inspirational Recording for her second album, Nikumoon. Head has already won at Wisconsin's Indian Summer Music Awards (ISMA) and California's West Coast American Indian Awards (WCAIA) earlier this year.
Another double nominee, country singer/songwriter Tracy Bone picked up a nod for Best Female Artist and Best Country Recording for her latest recording, Woman of Red. Bone also wom a WCAIA earlier this year in the country album category.
Rock outfit Indian City picked a nod for Best Pop Recording for its sophomore release, Colors. The album also earned Indian City hardware at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards and Indian Summer Music Awards this year, as well as a nod for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year at the upcoming Canadian Folk Music Awards.
