Rhonda Head, Indian City, Tracy Bone Pick Up U.S. Music Awards
Three Manitoba artists have landed music awards recently, including honours at Wisconsin's Indian Summer Music Awards and California's West Coast American Indian Awards. Rock outfit Indian City, classical singer Rhonda Head, and country chanteuse Tracy Bone have all picked up hardware.
The Indian Summer Music Awards were held in Milwaukee on September 7. Indian City earned the top spot in the pop and rock categories for its songs "Duet" and the title track off its latest release, Colors. Rhonda Head, who attended the awards, won in the spiritual category for her rendition of "How Great Thou Art" off her sophomore album, Nikumoon.
The West Coast American Indian Awards took place in Hollywood on August 30. Rhonda Head won the award for Canadian Indigenous Artists while JUNO Award nominee Tracy Bone won in the the Country Album category for her latest, Woman Of Red. Both Head and Bone attended the WCAIA and were there to accept their awards.
Indian City stands to bring home a few more awards this weekend when the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA) return to Winnipeg. Manitoba artists have netted 14 APCMA nominations this year, including four nods for Indian City for Best Pop CD, Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year, Best Album Cover Design, and Best Producer/Engineer. Other Manitoba nominees include Leonard Sumner, Desiree Dorion, Winnipeg Boyz, Nelson Little, Jason Lepine, Jody Thomas Gaskin, and Moodie X 2. The winners will be revealed at the invite-only Ohshkii Awards Night at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on September 11 and the ninth annual gala awards show at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on September 12, 2014.
