Manitoba Artists Earn Six Nominations at the North American Indigenous Image Awards

Desiree Dorion, Jerry Sereda, Eagle & Hawk, and Segweh have earned nominations from the North American Indigenous Image Awards (NAIIA) this year. Now in its third year, the NAIIA honour the accomplishments of Indigenous artists working in film, print, comedy, photography, and music.

Desiree Dorion has two nods for her Soul Back Jack album. The CD is nominated for Outstanding Country Album, while the title track is up for Outstanding Album Single. Eagle & Hawk also has two nominations. The Great Unknown is in the running for Outstanding Rock Metal Album and “What if We Could” is up for Outstanding Album Single.

Country singer Jerry Sereda continues to gain momentum this year. His video for “I Ain’t Learned Nothing Yet” is nominated for Outstanding Music Video.

Segweh has earned their second nomination in the US for their debut release. They picked up a trophy from the Native American Music Awards in November and their self-titled CD is in the running for Outstanding Rock Metal Album at the NAIIA.

The NAIIA ceremony is set for Friday, April 29 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Albuquerque. Past award winners include Tracy Bone and Team Rezofficial.
