GRAMMY evolution hits the Native American music category

Posted on

The Recording Academy has restructured the GRAMMY Awards and eliminated the category dedicated to honoring Indigenous North American music. All submissions that used to go in to the Best Native American Music Album category will now be grouped with submissions for the Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album and Best Hawaiian Music Album in the newly formed Best Regional Roots Music Album category.

According to the Recording Academy website, “This category is intended to recognize recordings of regionally based traditional music, including but not limited to Hawaiian, Native American, polka, zydeco and Cajun music.”
