Manitoba Music Rocks Charity Curling Bonspiel | Jan 30, 2011

Posted on

Few things say “music industry” more than curling. You heard us: curling.

Manitoba Music and Manitoba Film & Music are coming together for the first Manitoba Music Rocks Charity Curling Bonspiel to raise funds and awareness for the new Unison Benevolent Fund. The bonspiel will take place on January 30 at the Grain Exchange Curling Club, offering participants of all skill levels a chance to curl for a cause.

The Unison Fund is a creation of the music industry, for the music industry. In 2011, it will begin to provide emergency financial assistance and crisis management. The long term goal is for the fund to provide counseling services and insurance coverage at group benefit rates. Find out more about the Unison Fund at www.unisonfund.ca.

“Manitoba has a strong and compassionate music community with a long tradition of banding together for a great cause,” says Manitoba Music’s executive director, who also sits on the Unison Benevolent Fund’s board of directors. “The ability to provide critical assistance to our artists and industry in their time of need through an organization like this is long overdue. We’re thrilled to introduce the Unison Fund to Manitoba with such a fun and fantastic event.”

"Those in the music industry are often self-employed and don't have access to health benefits or financial support," says Carole Vivier, CEO of Manitoba Film & Music. "The Unison Fund will allow artists to pursue their craft knowing that they are supported. It will make a huge difference in the lives of individuals in this industry."

We'll have some games to keep people busy off the ice, too, as well as the one and only Mama Cutsworth on turntable duties. Pizzeria Gusto has come on board to offer curlers a delicious finish to the event’s festivities, and we’ll have plenty of prizes for bonspiel winners as well as those who come dressed in their best, most outrageous, and vintage curling outfits.

Get ready to hurry harrrrrd...
