MARIA launches Aboriginal Industry Works

ABORIGINAL INDUSTRY WORKS: An introduction to the business side of Manitoba’s music industry for Aboriginal post-secondary students and recent grads.

The Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association’s (MARIA) Aboriginal Music Program is pleased to launch a new project to introduce up to 10 Aboriginal post-secondary students and recent graduates to the business side of the music industry.

We're looking for talented and driven people interested in becoming an artist manager, booking agent, concert promoter, music marketer, record label manager, communications specialist, or project manager.

The project will begin Monday, August 11, 2008 with an introduction session and continue into the Fall and Winter months of the 2008-09 academic year with workshops and networking events.

What we’re looking for:
• First Nation, Métis and Inuit post-secondary students or recent grads living in Winnipeg;
• People who love music;
• People who want to work in a fast-paced and challenging industry;
• People with multiple skills (eg. writing, photography, event planning, promotions, networking, etc...); and,
• People who will commit to workshops and networking events in the evenings and on the weekends.

What we’re offering:
• Two workshops just for the participants with industry professionals from across Canada;
• Admission to all MARIA workshops for the Fall and Winter months;
• Invitations to music industry networking events throughout the year; and,
• Ongoing support and advice from the Aboriginal Music Program Coordinator.
