Star Catcher catches four more stars in Winnipeg

The Star Catcher amateur singing contest wrapped up its threecommunity tour of Manitoba with a final stop at the Vision Quest Conference in Winnipeg on May 15. The show featured 26 Aboriginal singers and one heavy metal band from Cross Lake. The C-Weed Band backed up each of the performers and headlined the show, playing a number of the hits for the crowd at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

After three hours of performances and a great rendition of the Apple Blossom Special played by the evening’s master of ceremonies, Chief Morris Shannacappo, the contest came to an end with Melissa Galvin grabbing first place, Jerry Sereda taking home second, Evan Reeve coming in third and Cross Lake’s heavy metal band, Prodiggy earning the fourth place spot.

Just like the other two Star Catcher contests, the finalists received a cash prize along with the opportunity to record an original song with a Winnipeg-based recording studio and producer. Three tracks have been completed by Star Catcher finalists to date, with a full album featuring all 12 artists being released for sale by the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Host Committee at the National Aboriginal Day celebrations at the Red River Ex on June 21.
