Compilation CD

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: NOON, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 2007

MARIA’s Aboriginal Music Program is currently accepting submissions for Manitoba Aboriginal Artists - vol. 3, a promotional compilation CD, which will be released in August of 2007. The CD will used to promote the music being made by Aboriginal recording artists living in Manitoba and all genres are eligible. Once complete, the CD will be distributed widely through various music industry festivals and conferences, as well as directly to key players in the music industry and Aboriginal community.

The tracks that will be included on the CD will be selected by a jury of Aboriginal people working in Manitoba’s music industry. Their decisions will be based on recording quality, song quality and the market readiness of the individual, group or duo.

To have your track included for consideration, please submit:
• Press kit (digital or printed with a biography, an 8 x 10 inch photograph and touring history at the very least);
• CD with track name, number, songwriting and publishing credit, and track length clearly indicated;
• 20-word bio for the CD liner notes;
• Contact information for people interested in booking you for gigs: contact name, phone, email, and website; and,
• Completed Grant of Rights form (available at manitobamusic.com, in the “Announcements” section on the bottom of the front page, by emailing alan@manitobamusic.com, or in hard copy at the MARIA office).
Submissions will be rejected if incomplete

Submission fee: FREE
N.B. – A registration fee of $50 will be required for all applicants selected to be included on the compilation CD, unless the applicant is a MARIA member. This fee will be due in full by noon, July 20, 2007.

Q1. Who will be on the jury?
A1. The names of the jury members will be confidential, but if you would like to nominate someone to participant in the adjudication process, please forward their name and contact information to Alan Greyeyes (204.975.0284, alan@manitobamusic.com).

Q2. How can I tell if the recording quality of my song will be good enough for the compilation CD?
A2. The recording quality should be comparable to commercial releases by other recording artists in your genre. If you notice a big difference, the jury may not select your song for the compilation CD.

Q3. What do you mean by song quality?
A3. The jury will be asked to consider the structure, composition and writing skills demonstrated in your song as they make their decisions.

Q4. What will be used to determine the market readiness of the individuals, groups or duos?
A4. The jury will be asked to consider the touring history, professionalism demonstrated in your press kit (bio, photo, media clippings, etc...), and the past success (award nominations, awards received, CD reviews, CD sales, etc...) of your submission as they make their decisions.

Q5. Do I have to pay anything in order for my song to be considered for the compilation CD?
A. It’s free to submit. In the event that your song is selected for the CD, you will be required to pay a registration fee of $50, unless you are a MARIA member.
