2019 GULF COUNTRY FRONTIER DAYS FESTIVAL
Goodidja Productions is excited to announce that Aria award winning artist Dan Sultan will headline the 2019
Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival, joined by Golden Guitar winner Sara Storer and Grammy Award and five
time Native American Music Award winner Micki Free.
Dan Sultan, who has become one of the country’s most revered songwriters and performers, has recently
taken six months out of the spotlight to recalibrate and steady the ship and is now ready to take on a whole
bunch of new, exciting and fresh challenges, including the invitation to sit in the medicine circle and feel the
healing powers of the Salt Flats with Festival Director Alec Doomadgee before hitting the main stage to
energise audiences with his full band.
Sara Storer is one of Australia’s most-loved singer-songwriters whose crisp observations of the Australian
landscape and its people provide the solid foundation stone for her music. She has seen all the beauty, joy and
heartbreak this land can bring having grown up on a wheat farm in Victoria and has been close to the land in
one way or another ever since.
Blues-rock guitarist and Native American flute player Micki Free returns to the Festival in 2019 with full band
from the USA to share ‘the Micki Free Experience’. Discovered by Gene Simmons of KISS, Micki has worked
with Prince, Carlos Santana, Gary Clark Jr, Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP, just to name a few.
Founder of the Warumpi Band, Sammy Butcher, will be making the trek across from the Central Desert and
bringing with him the Tjupi Band who performs a unique blend of desert reggae rock and sing in the Luritja
tongue. Also making the journey are the renowned Papunya visual artists and dancers to share their cultural
ceremonies.
Returning to the Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival stage is masterful songwriter and compelling performer,
Glenn Skuthorpe, a modern day troubadour, who has just returned fresh from a tour of Canada across five
provinces after the release of his sixth album ‘Wild Winds of Dooga’ and new single ‘This is Australia’.
“Glenn Skuthorpe’s music sings this country. When I hear his words and what he has to say, it’s this country
singing back to us.” said Festival CEO and Artistic Director Alec Doomadgee.
Multi-international award winning, mezzo-soprano and Cree language singer Rhonda Head from northern
Manitoba Canada will share her unique voice and stories of adventures, challenges and triumphs with Festival
audiences.

The 2019 Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival
The Festival tradition of showcasing awe inspiring First Nations performers from around the world and
providing a platform for audiences to connect with cultural experiences, will be even deeper and fuller this year.
The 2019 Festival will be set against the backdrop of Australia’s largest salt pan and the Ancestral lands of the
Gangalidda Tribe, a site of deep spiritual significance. Festival audiences will be invited to gather around the
medicine circle on the Salt Flats and to reflect, connect and recharge at the First Nations Cultural Village and
through the Medicine Mornings program.
The local dance and cultural groups will come together with artists from around the world to connect through
culture under the Burketown ‘Moungibi’ night sky. The line up features the Buminji, Mornington Island,
Pupunya, Gamilaroi Yanni Yuligi and Kayn Kuap Boigu Island Dancers (AUS), Paayuvi Hopi Dance group and
Pueblo Dancer (USA), Dancers from the Cree Nation (CAN) and Te Pu o Te Wheke Kapahaka (NZ).
“This year’s festival continues to build on the success of previous years, with Dan Sultan headlining our music
program and the return of the legendary guitarist Micki Free.
Our Native brothers and sisters from around the world will join us on the tribal lands of the Gangalidda people,
who have given permission for the first time to hold a concert and cultural performances on the Burketown
Salt Flats.
This is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed. The magic begins from the opening ceremony, with
our artists sharing their medicine and culture from around the world.” said Festival Director Alec Doomadgee.
Ticket packages to include four incredible days of music, dance, culture, workshops and a one day rodeo are
available for purchase on the festival website now.
Festival dates: August 15 -18, 2019
