True to our seasonal name of Winter-peg… we sure got a walloping of the white stuff over the past two weeks! It was like autumn one day, and then boom – a foot of snow the next! Thank goodness for snow shovels, snow tires, and command starts…

Tune in TONIGHT at 9:00pm EST for the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival’s Edumacation episode with Gerry Dee. Produced by Frantic Films, it’s a sneak preview of the newest CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival television series, which will air over five nights in early 2011.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is holding their annual medieval-themed Winter Wassail this Thursday December 2 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. A special fundraising event for the Winnipeg Folk Festival’s Education and Outreach Programs, the Winter Wassail features a luscious medieval feast, fabulous auction, entertainment, and the presentation of the Artistic Achievement Award. This year’s recipient is Leon Redbone.

Sister Dorothy is releasing a new album this winter called International Woman. Her CD release happens December 19 at 10:00am with a free public performance at James A. Richardson International Airport.

Don Amero just got back a successful cross-country tour in support of the recent release of his third album The Long Way Home. The album’s first single is called Right Where I Wanna Be, and has been featured on radio stations across Canada. You can have a listen to this country-flavoured track on Don’s website.

The National Film Board of Canada completed a prairie tour by NFB Commissioner Tom Perlmutter, with townhall-style meetings in Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg. Members of the public were invited to come out and share their stories, ideas and feedback with the NFB. If you missed the meetings but would still like to have your say, contact the NFB anytime.

Kistikan Pictures, a collaboration between Tina Keeper and Buffalo Gal Pictures, won the MTS Winnipeg On Demand Pitch at On Screen Manitoba’s All Access Forum. Eight finalists had three minutes to present project ideas, followed by jury deliberation, and selection of the winner. Kistikan’s project REDress Redress was awarded a $20,000 license fee with MTS Winnipeg on Demand.

The Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards took place in early November, and fan favourites Eagle & Hawk took home the award for Best Rock CD, for their latest album The Great Unknown. They also won Best Album of the Year and Best Group at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. Way to go guys!

Cheryl Ashton is returning to Manitoba in the New Year, having been appointed Festival Director of the Gimli Film Festival – Manitoba’s largest film festival. Cheryl has spent the past few years as CEO of the Nunavut Film Development Corporation, and will no doubt enjoy the move back to ‘balmy’ Winnipeg… Congratulations Cheryl and welcome back!

On Screen Manitoba recently held their annual All Access Forum, which explores the word of television and interactive digital media. RoseAnna Schick of RAS Creative was asked to moderate a panel called Online Content: Principal or Co-star? and was proud to be part of this great industry event.

For some people, a daily ‘to-do’ list can seem daunting, discouraging, and even overwhelming. If you are one of those people, try a different approach. Create a weekly ‘already-done’ list that shows all the things you’ve accomplished so far. By the end of the week, you’ll feel so good about your productivity that you’ll no longer be bothered by all those things you still need to do, but which will no longer be looming because you no longer have a to-do list…

Have a good one!
