Winnipeg singer/songwriter, Sierra Noble has been chosen to represent Canada as one of only 6 songwriters from around the world at the prestigious Viña Del Mar International Song Festival in Chile this February 21-26, 2011.

After close friend and local Folklorama producer, Christian Hidalgo-Mazzei encouraged her to submit to the competition last October, two of her songs from her album “Possibilities” were submitted.

Following a rigorous selection process where more that 500 hundred songs from 152 countries were judged, her second Canadian radio release “Try Anything” came out on top as one of the six finalists from around the world. The song was written by Sierra Noble with fellow Canadian songwriters Chris Burke-Gaffney and Christopher Ward. Noble will be competing against songs from Ukraine, Panama, Peru, the USA and Chile.

“Having had opportunities in the past to represent Canada in other countries around the world, I know what a thrill this is going to be, and I can't wait to experience the Chilean audience, get to know the people, and smell the warm ocean air in February! I've heard so much about the Viña Del Mar Festival now, I just can't wait to get there and share a little bit of what Canada has to offer!!" commented the talented artist.

The festival attracts over 90,000 spectators over a six day period every year. From its humble beginnings in 1959, the festival has become the largest music festival in Latin America and is broadcasted to millions in the Spanish speaking world via internet and television.

Guest artists scheduled to perform at this year’s festival include: Sting, Pit bull, Chayanne, Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, Spain’s Alejandro Sanz and Mexico’s Marco Antonio Solis.

"I am so honoured to have been selected and looking forward to proudly representing Canada at this extremely important musical event" says Noble. Joining her in this amazing journey will be her mother Sherry and Christian Hidalgo-Mazzei acting as her translator.
