Manito Ahbee Festival is co-hosting the First Nations Pavilion at Folklorama. It runs August 1 to 7 at Riddell Hall at the University of Winnipeg, and features entertainment, traditional cuisine and cultural displays. www.manitoahbee.com
Cameras are rolling and curling rocks are sliding on Men With Brooms, a new comedy series being shot in Winnipeg this summer. Produced by Frantic Films, Serendipity Point Films and E1 Entertainment, it is inspired by the popular Canadian movie of the same name. The series will launch as part of CBC Television’s fall line-up. Stay tuned!
The Winnipeg Folk Festival enjoyed a record turn-out this year. Over the course of five days, more than 76,000 people attended – which is approximately 3000 more than last year, and the highest cumulative number to date. New initiatives in 2010 included the 1st annual Green Ride to Birds Hill Park, which saw 85 cyclists participate in the community commute to the festival site. www.winnipegfolkfestival.ca
Prairie Dog Film + Television is pleased to announce that production has begun on the first season of Blackstone for APTN & Showcase. This intense, compelling, and sometimes controversial dramatic television series is shooting eight one-hour episodes this summer, in and around Edmonton. www.blackstonetheseries.com
The Winnipeg Rowing Club is proud to be hosting the 107th Annual NorthWest International Rowing Association (NWIRA) Regatta in Winnipeg on August 13 and 14. Come out and watch rowing races on the Red River, with athletes from Canada and the US taking part. www.winnipegrowingclub.ca
