Here in Manitoba, it seems that May showers bring June clean-up… No doubt many of you have been dealing with basement water from the weekend – my self included. Which is why the RAS Report for May is coming to you in June! We hope you can take a moment to read our clients’ latest news, and see what we’ve been up to. CLIENT NEWS

The 2010 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards take place in Winnipeg November 4 and 5. They recently announced their call for submissions, with entries wanted from across Canada. The deadline for submissions is June 30 and the official entry form is available online at the APCMA website. www.aboriginalpeopleschoice.com

Don Amero hit the road this spring for his first Canadian tour since a wave of nominations and awards for the album Deepening. Now back in Winnipeg, Don will perform as part of APTN’s National Aboriginal Day concert at The Forks on June 20, which will broadcast live across Canada. He will also perform with accompaniment from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as part of their Indigenous Festival on June 24. www.donameromusic.com

The Manito Ahbee Festival is currently looking for traditional and contemporary workshop presenters for their annual Education Conference, in the areas of music, theatre and dance. The film The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom just wrapped shooting in Manitoba. A co-production between Winnipeg’s Buffalo Gal Pictures and Montreal’s Palomar, the film is the debut feature from Canadian writer/director Tara Johns. Set in 1976, it tells the story of a young girl who finds out she has been adopted, and sets out on a journey to discover her true identity. www.theyeardollypartonwasmymom.blogspot.com

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada is holding its first National Event from June 16 to 19 in Winnipeg. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was created to talk about the experiences and impacts of the residential schools, and the path to respect and reconciliation.
