MUSIC

Calgary-based bluessmyth are coming to Winnipeg for three nights at the Windsor Hotel – May 28, 29 and 30 – in support of their new CD Sola Gratia. (www.bluessmyth.com)

Jaylene Johnson will be performing with full-band at the Park Theatre on June 18 to release her new CD Happiness. (www.jaylenejohnson.com)

Serena Postel was approved for funding support to record two demos this summer. She’ll be laying down the tracks with producer Lloyd Peterson. (www.serenapostel.com)

Eagle & Hawk performed a concert with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, featuring the band’s music accompanied by sweet symphony sounds. (www.eagleandhawk.com)

Tracy Bone received a 2009 JUNO Award nomination for Aboriginal Album of the Year – not a bad nod for her debut recording! (www.tracybone.com)

FILM & TELEVISION

Frantic Films recently wrapped production of the pilot Todd & The Book Of Pure Evil, and finished shooting a five-part television special of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Coming next is Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story. (www.franticfilms.com)

Buffalo Gal Pictures currently has a couple of made-in-Manitoba television series on the air. Cashing In is enjoying its launch on APTN and Showcase, while Less Than Kind is showing on Citytv. (www.buffalogalpictures.com)

MuchMusic meets variety show in Arbor Live, the 13-part series now premiering on APTN. This fast-paced energetic program is a co-production between Arbor Records and StrongFront A/V Productions. (www.arborlive.tv)

Amreeka screened at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in May – a fantastic follow up to its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. (www.amreeka.com)

The Stone Angel won two Genie Awards this year: Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for screen legend Ellen Burstyn; and Achievement in Music – Original Score for John McCarthy. (www.thestoneangelmovie.com)

SPECIAL EVENTS

The 2009 Vision Quest Conference took place May 11-13 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. More than 700 people attended this great event, which promotes Aboriginal economic development, community and partnerships. (www.vqconference.com)

Charton-Hobbs Inc. hosted a very special wine portfolio tasting in Regina with Thomas Perrin, from one of France's oldest and most renowned winemaking families, prior to participating at this year’s Winnipeg Wine Festival. (www.chartonhobbs.com)

ACTIVE LIVING

Moksha Yoga Winnipeg is offering two special Hip-Hop yoga classes on Saturday May 30, with all proceeds going to Challenge For Life. Yo yo yo, check check check it out y’all… (www.mokshayogawinnipeg.com)

The Winnipeg Rowing Club is ready to row! Competitive and recreational crews are back on the Red River, with applications available online for ‘Learn-to-row’ or to enter a team in the annual Community Rowing Challenge. (www.winnipegrowingclub.ca)
