Blues Country Rock
The Joe Maxim Band is a Country, Rock and Blues band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2009.
Formally known as Slowhand, the Joe Maxim Band was formed by brother’s Calvin Nepinak-lead guitar/vocals and younger brother Curtis Nepinak vocals/acoustic guitar. The two have always been the backbone of Joe Maxim.
Calvin started playing at a young age with a group called The Jesse Band, they mostly played Winnipeg’s Main Street Strip like The West Hotel, The Patricia Hotel, The Bell Hotel, The Savoy Hotel and The Manor Hotel. Three years of playing and jamming with Robert Chartrand aka Bigman, Alvin Chartrand, Billy-Joe Green, Curtis Jonnie (Shingoose), Tom Jackson and the late Percy Tuesday—many great influences from the original Indigenous music scene of Manitoba.
After The Jesse Band Calvin started the group Slowhand in 1983, playing in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec for 20 plus years. With the style being a blend of rock, country and blues with an edge Slowhand won the Best Aboriginal Band in Canada in 2000.
In 2009 a group of talented musicians of different musical tastes and genres came together to form the Joe Maxim Band, the name honouring the brother’s Father Joe Maxim Nepinak. The band made up of longtime friends Andy Dick from the Dick Brothers-drummer/backup vocals, Joe Campbell lead guitar, and bass player Jeff Mckenzie of the band Heritage.
Over the years the Joe Maxim Band has performed throughout Canada, playing in Casinos, bars, and winter/summer festivals in northern communities backing up amateur and professional talent shows.
Today JMB is still continuously networking and fine tuning their presence to create strong live shows.
