the sākihiwē festival was launched in 2009 as aboriginal music week to develop indigenous youth as an audience for live music. the festival presents between 20 and 30 first nation, metis, inuit, native american, and indigenous music acts each year.

Gabrielle Fontaine is a folk-pop singer-songwriter based in Winnipeg MB. Gabrielle grew up surrounded in a strong musical environment. Her earliest exposure came through her father, Vince Fontaine, the founder and band leader of award winning bands Eagle and Hawk and Indian City. Her music was further influenced by her uncle Steve Bell, an award winning gospel musician. Throughout highschool, Gabrielle was featured in multiple Grant Park performing arts productions gaining valuable stage and production experience. Soon after, she began writing and performing her own music. Gabrielle's music reflects her personal experiences and perspectives of life, which often highlight her view through an indigenous lens. Gabrielle was a feature guest singer and songwriter on the Indian City 2018 Juno Nominated album Here & Now. She is poised to follow in the strong tradition of Manitoba's vibrant music community while fostering her talent nationally and internationally.
