National Arts Centre Brings Indigenous Voices Rising Concert to Thunderbird House, Oct 18

Winnipeg audiences will have a chance to hear some of the most exciting First Nation, Metis, and Inuit voices from from Manitoba this month as the National Arts Centre presents the Indigenous Voices Rising concert.

Taking place October 18 at Thunderbird House in partnership with Manitoba Music, the University of Winnipeg, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the free concert will showcase collaborations and solo performances incorporating hip hop, folk, blues, and traditional Indigenous musical styles to celebrate the diverse range of local Indigenous talent. 

Hosted by acclaimed Anishinaabe MC and singer/songwriter Leonard Sumner and Montreal-based multidisciplinary Metis artist Moe Clark, the evening will feature performances hip hop artist Peshanakwut, DJ and music producer Boogey the Beat, indie rocker waNda wilsoN, jazz trumpeter Chuck Copenace, singer/songwriter Ila Barker, classical vocalist Rhonda Head, throat singer Nikki Komaksiutiksak, and alt-pop singer/songwriter Sonia Eidse.

There’s also an opportunity to participate in a collaborative community mural project with Winnipeg visual artist Jessica Canard before and after the performance.
