THE APCMA’s: Not Just for Canadians Anymore

Posted on

After the success of the first Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, the Manitoba Aboriginal  Music Host Committee has decided to expand the show and open the competition up to our cousins from the United States of America.

“The APCMA’s rely on online voting to decide who wins in each category,” explains Executive Producer, Errol Ranville.  “So it’s important for each of the acts to get their fans to vote for them.”

What’s more, Ranville envisions an online Aboriginal music mall where music lovers and talent buyers from all parts of the world can easily find and eventually purchase Aboriginal music from Canada and the US.  This year’s expansion takes Ranville one step further in that direction.

Last year the APCMA show featured a grand entry with close to 500 dancers in full regalia, a hoop dance demonstration, seven-year-old jigging prodigy, “Slick” and live performances by JC Campbell, Tracy Bone, Digging Roots, Shane Yellowbird, Andrea Menard, Eekwol, Derek Miller, Eagle and Hawk and Keith Secola.  Actor Catherine St. Germain and Corner Gas star, Lorne Cardinal held down the host duties for the 2-hour broadcast, which went live to air on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network..

The 2007 APCMA show will be held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, November 2 and the winners will be decided by votes on the APCMA website: www.aboriginalpeopleschoice.com
